December 13th

Bonjour! If you have not yet returned the gingerbread permission slip, please do so as soon as possible. Today, during our morning routine, the students did some puzzles and then we practiced the first three lines of the homework. Please continue practicing at home until Tuesday, the 17th. Our caroling assembly was wonderful! Thank you to all the parents who came and participated. For those who could not make it today, I did take two videos for but I'm having trouble adding them to the blog. I'll post them with "videos" in the subject line as soon as I am able to. After the assembly, we had centres, finished our math project from yesterday, did a couple movement breaks and played a math game. We ended the day with a sharing circle about about our favourite part of the week. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Bonjour, Reminder that our class (AM kindergarten) has school tomorrow. Caroling will take place int he gym at 8:45am. Today, we did a lot of math! I introduced the concept of subitizing today; recognizing how many objects are in a set without counting. We practiced with gingerbread men on the SMARTboard. Afterwards, students were asked to write the numbers 1-5 down the side of a paper and draw sets of winter images to match each number. We are going to continue this activity tomorrow. After our math activity, we had centres, a quick look at lowercase letters, and a bonus music period with Mme Edgett!

Bonjour! In order to help students prepare for the caroling that they will be doing in the gym on Friday, we practiced the song that they have been learning with Mme Edgett in music. We also did some letter review today and wrote in our journals. During our letter review, we looked at and named all of the letters out of order and started talking about the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters. In gym, we played toilet tag and rock-paper-scissors tag. As usual, we ended the day with a story and some songs!

Bonjour! Please return all library book by the end of the week.  Once the books are returned, I'll keep the clear library bags in the class until our next book exchange. We will resume book exchanges in the new year. Please check your email for the Gingerbread permission slip that I sent out last night. If you did not receive the e-mail, please let me know. If you have already returned the permission slip or contacted me about it, please disregard this reminder. Thank you! Today, we did some patterning; first with blocks, then on paper. Before we got started, we did some review and talked about some of the mistakes that are often made when patterning. Afterwards, the students had music with Mme Edgett, had centre time, and listened to me read a great book as part of our gingerbread book study. The book that I read today is called The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas by Laura Murray and it is all about being kind to others. We talked about giving gifts that we say, gift...

Bonjour! I hope everyone had a good weekend! Parents will receive e-mail today about the gingerbread making even that we will have in-class next Friday, the 19th. Please print, fill out, and return the bottom portion of the sheet to school as soon as possible. If you do not receive the e-mail within the next 24 hours, please let me know. Thank you! I just want to remind parents that if your child is going to be absent from school, please email or call the office and your daycare provider if you have one. Today, we practiced saying the first three lines of the homework and the students did a great job. The hardest part is the very last sentence and because everyone will have a different answer, it will be hard to practice in class. Please continue practicing at home. Thank you! In gym class, the students did centres that were ski/snowboard inspired. They go to jump over hurdles, use a balance board, use floor gliders to mimic the motion of skiing across the gym, and they got t...

Bonjour, No school for the AM kindergarten students tomorrow. In the school's weekly update this week, you might have read that many library books are being lost or returned damaged. To help with this, all students have received large ziploc bags to keep their library book safe. Our class received their bags today and I talked to the students about making sure that their books go to and from school in the bag. Today, we continued practicing the "Je célèbre..." line from the December homework. After circle time, we did a sorting activity in math. We talked about sorting by colour, shape, size and practiced sorting items on the SMARTboard. Afterwards, in partners, students worked to sort a bag of mystery items. During centre time, students started making paper candy decorations for our gingerbread centre. We ended the day with some songs and a story about a gingerbread baby.

Bonjour, We will be having an in-class gingerbread making event on December 19th. I have put a list of ingredients on our volunteer sign up sheet her e . If you sign up to provide one of these ingredients, please send the ingredients to school with your child on the 18th so that I can have everything set up and ready to go on the 19th. I will post a reminder closer to the day of the event. Thank you for your support in making this event happen, the students are very excited! Today was another exciting day in room 9. The gingerbread men were hidden a little better than yesterday so it was more of challenge to find them during centre time. I also made a new gingerbread house centre as a surprise and it was a huge hit with the students today! They will be making decorations for it over the next couple weeks. During our French circle time today, we practiced one of the lines from the homework, "Je célèbre...".  Part of the homework is to talk about something that you celebr...
