February 26th, 2020

Bonjour, Today was Pink Shirt day, we ready a story called Llama Llama and the Bully Goat. Then, we talked about what is bullying and what we can do in situations where bullying is taking place. Afterwards, we brainstormed ideas of how to be a good friend and lift others up. Each student traced and cut out their handprint on pink paper and I wrote their ideas on the hands and put them up on display in the class. We also looked at the sounds for the letters "M' and "O" today and the students did a great job of brainstorming French words that contain each sound! We also added "O" to our list of vowels on the board; the students know that vowels are special letters because their sounds match their names. At the end of the day, I talked to the students about how we will be turning the house centre into a grocery store and we watched a video of a grocery store tour. March 13th, 2020

Bonjour, Please continue practicing for the March homework presentations; they will take place on Tuesday, the 17th. Today, we had Sound Kreations first thing in the morning. The students learned a new dance move called "the clock"; ask your child to show you! After sound creations, we made a graph of the students' favourite fruits and had centre time. After centres, we had our Food Impact presentation. It was great! The students learned about Canada's food guide and also learned about the different "superpowers" that each food group gives our bodies. After an engaging discussion, the students got to make their own yogurt parfait snacks and were given a sample of wow butter to take home. Following the presentation, we reviewed our letter sounds and played a math game. We ended the day with a story and a sharing circle. Bonjour! The December calendar is going up on the blog this afternoon, so is the December homework. The homework will be due on Tuesday, December 17th. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an e-mail. Today with all of the excitement of crazy hat day and our art project, the students had a hard time listening and following instructions during transitions and our math activity. We had a class discussion about why it's important listen in school and how it's hard for me to plan fun activities if the students can't calm down or focus afterwards. During our discussion, the students recognized that their behaviour wasn't as good as it normally is and I'm proud of them for being honest in their self-reflections. These are skills that we learn and develop throughout Kindergarten and there will likely be many more conversations like this throughout the year!
