Bonjour!

I hope everyone had a good long weekend. The students were very excited to tell me about what they did!

Please continue practicing for the February homework presentations, they will take place next Monday.

Today, we did some number review in French and practiced counting-on. I give the students a number between 1 and 10 and they have to say the 3 numbers that come after it. For example, if I say "un", they have to say "deux, trois, quatre". This is an important skill for when they start doing addition and subtraction next year! If you want to practice at home, it's important that they do not repeat the number that you say, they have to continue with the following number.


In gym today, we started a floor hockey unit. The kids learned how to hold and control the hockey sticks while keeping them on the ground.


Today, I also introduced the letter sound for "L" and we practiced identifying the sounds in French words that we already know like "livre".

Bonjour, Our class is still looking for a volunteer for Friday morning. If you can come, please sign up, it would be greatly appreciated. During our French circle time this morning, we practiced saying how old we are in French, which is a part of this month's homework. Today, we also expanded on our health conversation from yesterday by writing about good health in our journals and drawing at least three different healthy habits. Afterwards, the students had music with Mme Edgett and centre time. During centre time, we did some painting! At the end of the day, I introduced the final three letter sounds, "X", "Y", and "Z". The students were so excited that we've reached the of the alphabet. We will continue practicing letter sound and identifying them in our classroom songs and vocabulary.

Tuesday, September 24th

Bonjour! Today was a busy day for the students of room 9. We talked about the changing seasons and the colours that we see in autumn. We also discussed the story of Terry Fox and why he is a Canadian hero. Following our discussion, we listened to a French song about Terry Fox which you can find here ; I encouraged the kids to sing along with the chorus of "Je cours come Terry...Terry Fox". Finally, in gym class, the students practiced for the run by running around the field for 20 minutes! We had a couple students who did 8 laps! During centre time today, the students worked together to build huge towers out blocks!
