Tuesday, November 5th

Bonjour!

For our Friday November 8th 10:30am Remembrance Day Assembly students who are cadets, scouts or guides are welcome to wear their uniform and participate in the procession into the gym.

Today, we looked at the remaining items in the Fort Calgary kit. We looked at a stone-tipped arrow, a sash, a sewing kit with a needle carved from bone, a piece of hide, and some traditional beads. We also talked about how the beads can be seen in the ceremonial dressing of different Indigenous communities. To showcase this, we watched a video of a Blackfoot man in full ceremonial dress dancing and discussing the history and culture of the Blackfoot people. He talked about passing down his language and traditions to his grandchildren. After, we looked at different traditional clothing from around the world. I encourage you to talk about your heritage with your child and how it's a part of what makes them unique!

The students ended the morning with music, centres, and a new song about poppies. I've added a link to the song on the "Resources" page of the blog.
